Munki talks about this too much. Here is an outlet for his enthusiasm.

I'm cumming 4 u

Post by Jae » Thu Aug 23, 2007 7:17 pm

My return is imminent. All of my server connection troubles have been resolved by "borrowing" an old NIC that was laying around on my desk at work.

2 weeks of agony with Verizon's tech support... only to find out that it was my own hardware that was failing. On the bright side, they moved me over to what's called "Fastpath" which pretty much cut my latency in half.

Cue in Syn telling me "I told you so" after I shat on his "maybe your NIC is going bad" theory.

Good. Then that means you have finally learned how to beat a mission without me.

Speaking of inevitable returns... I lied.

Just because I can finally download the client updates, doesn't mean I can actually connect to the game server.

Cocktease? I just never reported back after I finally established my connection for good. I'm back. Now you'll have to deal with my tomfoolery.

I guess I'm out again for now.

My oddball fix of deleting the GW client file each time a new build is pushed, then re-downloading it has failed this time around. It worked for two updates, but this time it just refuses to download past a certain point.

Using Syn's old DSL modem, alternating between my two NICs, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, direct modem connection to my PC, router/firewall port forwarding, or even reinstalling GW itself... none of that works. My laptop also cannot download the GW, so I'm still pretty sure it's my ISP. Still, Verizon will not acknowledge a problem on their side and ANet's support is still hung up on malware/firewalls stopping the client from going through. That's all a moot point since my Windows install is less than 2 weeks old and I shut my firewall off for GW updates.

So I'm left with the daunting task of escaping my Verizon 1-year contract and going back to my old cable ISP. I hear cancelling Verizon is about as easy as cancelling AOL. You cocks better still be around when I get this fixed!

I FINALLY dug my guild wars disc out of my old games box so I'll be installing it sometime in the next day or two (probably Friday). I only have the very first game and I think I was lvl 12ish. I may just start a brand new character and go from the beginning to get used to the gameplay again.

After you disappeared when the New Client message appeared, I figured that's what happened.

Yay for Sord showing up! A NEW CHARACTER APPEARS!

Ben, now you have to power through the Nightfall campaign, so I can do The Mouth of Torment without having to resort to PUGging. Chop Chop get to it!

/groan

Im workin on it, Im workin on it.

I heard that ST made it to Lion's Arch though... so I may have to take a break and actually get through the Prophecies campaign so I can unlock Fevered Dreams. You know... the skill I kinda based my whole build on.

But that in of itself is a catch 22. I need to finish Nightfall so I can get the dagger I want, so Ill be better in PvE. But if I finish Prophecies first I can cap the elite skill that I think will make me better in PvE.

All that and I still haven't finished Factions yet. Im on the last fight. Haven't even tried it.

The good news is, I'm not TOO far off from being able to have my Dervish start running. I have some (fairly easy) missions to go through, especially since I'm not trying for Master rewards (that is for my Necro). The only cock block is going to be getting my Dervish through the same mission my Necro is stuck on. In some ways, my Dervish is more powerful (seriously... Having spammable Deep Wounds combined with a scythe and almost 600hp is pretty damn strong) so I MIGHT be able to solo Mouth of Torment with her. Then I"ll probably head over to the prophecies area to start running to various sections that are important. It'll be nice to be able to run a prophecies character from Ascalon to Lion's Arch quickly :)

SF? The only character I took through RoT so far was my WARRIOR. You know... the non-FOTM, easily replaced class. And no, I didn't have an SF supporting cast back then. When I was your age sonny, we walked uphill to school both ways in the desert with nothing more than axe and shield, Dunkoro, an SS Necro and a lame default-skilled General Morgahn.

I repeat. RoT is EZ. Just like getting in ur pants.

Oh man. I get logged in and I have no idea where I'm at or what to do.

Guess I really DO need to start over :( I do remember I didn't like the warrior/necro combo much at least.

I second that.

Especially with the Prophecies campaign, you have a good way to jog your memory and remember how to play.

Then you will have two characters and can always go back to your level 12.
