The Avengers (2012)

Postby Evenflow » Sat Aug 20, 2011 10:54 pm

The Avengers is set to release in May 2012. It's the conclusion of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) movies as well as Thor (Chris Hemsworth), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Captain America (Chris Evans).

Joining those four legendary heroes is Samuel L. Jackson as SHIELD's commander, Nick Cage. Scarlet Johansson as the Black Widow. The Hurt Locker's star actor, Jeremy Renner, as Hawkeye and Thor's prime villain, Loki (Tom Hiddleston). It's not a given that Loki will be the prime villain of the film, but it's pretty much solid that he will be a major player in the movie.

The movie has been filming over the past few months in Cleveland, New Mexico, New York and a plethora of other locales. The film is set to finish filming with in the next month or two then it is time to play the waiting game.

This weekend is the annual D23 (Disney's yearly expo in Los Angeles that shows their slate for movies in the coming years). The Avengers was easily the most hyped film and most anticipated showing at the expo and well, here we go!

And this badass poster was revealed at the SDCC!

Here is my take on it all (me being the huge comic nerd that I am).

I think Loki is going to be behind everything and the cosmic cube will be key to it all. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that the Skrulls will be the primary baddies of the film. All the leaked footage and pictures taking by citizens in Cleveland showing what looks alien technology and crashed ships. I could be totally wrong though.

Regardless of how you feel about comic book movies, this is going to be a must-watch. It's easily the thing I am looking forward too the most about 2012. Yes, even more than Mass Effect 3.

Feel free to discuss the movie and all other Marvel/Disney studio movies!

Iron Man 2, terrible
Thor, terrible
Incredible Hulk (both of them), terrible
Captain America, semi-decent but not spectacular

I wish I could be excited for this movie, but I'm growing a bit jaded with comic book movies and the reputable assload of crap that they've been over the past few years. I really wish someone like the old Miramax would get going again so that some original movies can actually be made again. I just can't get excited for yet another remake, reboot, sequel and/or comic book movie that will almost never live up to its hype.

I hope this one is different, but all I see is dumb special effects, cheap action, and another comic book movie with no story and too many villains/heroes. I'm rooting for this movie, but I'm going to be very pessimistic until proven otherwise because I'm tired of being let down by comic book movies.

Iron Man 2, Thor and The Incredible Hulk may not have been the films Captain America, Iron Man and First Class were, but terrible? That's just absurd. I mean the metacritic and rotten tomatoes reviews pretty much prove that otherwise. However, people are entitled to their opinions, I suppose.

Then again, I've been reading comics for over ten years so my point of view is different.

Though, this isn't a Marvel Studios/Disney film, here the pretty neat trailer for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebCawfEnSWU

I will say that it looks slightly better than the original and I really like the design of Ghost Rider this time. However, it is Nick Cage and just about everything he's done since Face Off has been god awful. I would've rather had a new Ghost Rider (the dude who played Sawyer in LOST would make a great Ghost Rider) but whatever. I'll still see it since Ghost Rider has been one of my favorite Marvel characters because he is different than someone like Spider-Man or Wolverine.

I completely agree. Total eye candy movie for me, I don't care how bad or good it ends up being, because I'll already be happy with him on screen.

The guy who plays Captain America is pretty dreamy too. :)

And with that trailer, the main question left is: who will be responsible for the on-screen kiss that clinches a sweeping of the MTV Movie Awards?

Saw the movie last night (wtf is up with reversed world/US release date? not that i'm complaining though!). Our artsy/independent/non blockbusters/always original version (ie no french dub bullshit) theatre played it, otherwise i'd had waited for a pirated version. Fuck french dubbing.

It's FUCKING AWESOME.

Will go see again shortly, drag more people along with me. Whedon nailed it. I hope this movie skyrockets and he gets to do the next right yesterday!

I would try to give my thoughts on the movie, but I would end up going on and how great of a film it is and how it sets up the entire future of Marvel/Disney Studios movies. I could theorycraft (and have) for days so I will just say that it is the best movie I have seen in a long time that left me fully satisfied at the end. The only thing that pops into my mind is Return of the King that ever did that to me.

I'm jealous of the extra US scene though!

Gawd I want to see it so bad. Waiting for it to come to the $3 theater though. At this rate it's going to take forever since it's doing so well in the main theaters. =/

That's cool. While I would prefer him to be able to create his own IPs for television, the fact that this has Disney/Marvel money and popularity behind it will hopefully make it not get cancelled in half a season.
