My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

It seems kind of ridiculous that nobody's posted about this show yet... Am I the only Brony in Grog?

Anyway, it's obviously a show targeted at little girls, but it was created by Lauren Faust, who was an animator for Powerpuff Girls and co-creator (with her husband, fucking Craig McCracken) of Foster's Home of Imaginary Friends. She knows how to make a quality show, and because of it FiM has gotten a big internet following among adult males (who call themselves "Bronies"), especially on 4chan's /co/. As an aside, their threads are completely untrollable, because they exclusively react with love and tolerance to any trolls. Also, those threads are less common now that there's Ponychan and FiMchan...

That's one of the great things about the show, that they pay attention to the Brony community and respond. For example, in the first episode there was a pony in the background who, because of an animation error, had goofy crossed eyes. The Bronies fixated on her, named her "Derpy Hooves", and made a load of fanart of her. After she became a meme, they changed her art so now she always has the crossed eyes. Another example is that there was a DJ pony in one ep, who Bronies started calling DJ PON-3, which is now the character's official name.

Anyway. The show fucking rules and you should watch it. (if nobody else does, at least Chloe should... also because Damon would get totally hooked and tell you all to watch it)

And become a Brony? Nah. I'd only consider it if I'd become a Pwny.

I typed "brohook" into Google and it said "did you mean brohoof?" so that little victory for the show means I'll have to watch at least one episode.

I tried to watch one, a little girly for my tastes :p

So yeah, this continues to be awesome in the second season. In the first story (a two-parter), the villain was voiced by John de Lancie, and pretty much WAS Q. It was epic.

Sadly there's a three week delay until the third episode. T^T

Does this actually get a storyline of some sort? The first episode seemed super sappy and girly

Eh? The first two eps (also a two parter) are the ones that are the most plot-heavy (the whole evil pony trying to shroud the world in eternal night? which if you think about it would end up killing everypony) After that it's mostly slice of life stories, with occasional "adventure" episodes.

I don't really see what you mean by sappy, but how is "girly" a valid criticism? Lauren Faust purposefully made the show to prove that "girly" shows don't have to be the sickly sweet pablum they usually are.

I wouldn't say it is a criticism, just an observation. Sappy and girly don't appeal to everyone :P I can appreciate a fan service but it doesn't mean that everyone else is going to be a fan. /shrug.

Alright true. I'm just too tired.

Still a lot of people who hate girly things have ended up loving the show after seriously giving the show a chance... Not that you have to react the same, if you really don't like the show it's cool.

Though again, I don't understand it being sappy, which is a clearly pejorative term.

I guess I'll post here, too.

So does Chloe like the show? And did you watch "Fall Weather Friends", too? (yes, I knew the episode it was from a single frame) Or have you watched more then one episode? And if so, what did you think of it?

The second season has continued to be really good, by the way. There was finally a new song last week, the first one this season. Another new episode this Saturday! (see signature ^_^)

We watch them together and we both like them very much. We're almost done with the first season! She's a weird kid though and hates sitting through the "intro". She bitches, "Moooooooom, I've already seen this bit OVER AND OVER! Skip it pleeeeeeeeeeeease!!" Whenever I watched shows as a kid I loved the intros because they were usually flashy and I knew all the words to the song and was able to sing along. These two pop to mind almost immediately.

(This one is a little bittersweet for me because I was only able to watch the intro and a bit of the episode before getting hustled into the car on the way to school. I only ever really got to watch this one when I was home sick but I saw the intro almost every freaking morning.)

Random thing I found on the internet:

I was with my family last weekend and spent time with my little five year old cousin who was playing with My Little Pony toys in the living room. She announces we are all invited to the wedding. My aunt asks who's getting married. Cousin: Fluttershy and Applejack.
Aunt: "They can't get married."
Cousin: Why not?"
Aunt "Because girls can't marry other girls."
Cousin is angry: "Who says?"
Aunt: "God says."
Cousin: "Then I'm going to worship satan."

I told her to post this one instead. We found it afterwards (chloe was loving the pony videos) and it is way better done AND has a much better song :)
