Farewell FFXI

Postby Killjoy » Tue Nov 16, 2004 4:52 pm

I am in the process of getting rid of my items and distributing them out. I'm trying to send them to the people who have helped me out in-game or to those that can use them.
Last week I signed up for WoW open Beta. At the time I had just spoken with Sillia in Jeuno and she had informally invited me into her HNM LS but I would have to hit 65 and she would convince the other members to let me in. I had planned on on hitting a lvl spree and getting to that point so I could join and do some of the really fun end-game adventures. I only signed up for WoW to experience the game for free and squash that feeling that I might have missed out on something.

I'll be honest. I didn't expect much out of WoW but once I started playing I was totally blown away. I love the class I chose more than RDM because it excels in every area that I didn't like about RDM. As a warlock I can nuke, debuff, melee, and I get pets. I have a nuking pet, a tank pet, a DD buff/debuff pet.. I can rain fire on mobs and people, and one of my most useful spells is Fear where I can make mobs AND PEOPLE run around wildly out of control. I also just got a spell that allows me to summon pt members from anywhere with the help of two other pt members. Waiting on a person to arrive? {no thanks}
I installed the game thinking I would only spend a few hours playing and I ended up really enjoying the game. The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay is amazing. The quest system is so much more rewarding than FFXI and I look forward to doing it. Plus you don't take time from leveling to quest, you level while you quest and get exp for completing the quests you do.
PvP.... all I can say is, FFXI is nothing but boring in comparison to chasing a Tauran Shaman 2 lvls above you with a kickass Succubus and watching them run in fear after meleeing with her and throwing totems. The alerts that come across the defense channel announcing horde presence are great. After having a chance to play the game, I like the death system much better and the crafting system is much more player friendly. Fishing, imo is so much better than FFXI and has been created in a way that makes it virtually impossible to bot. It's a market based system which took some getting used to, and it only has one AH in Iron Forge but I like it a lot better this way. I know I haven't seen a lot of the game yet, being only lvl 20.. but I've seen enough to know that I enjoy it.
Bonus: Warlock has so much in common with the Necromancer in Diablo II. I used to play that back in the day and everything is just so familiar to me. A lot of the spells are the same minus area effect. Instead of getting a golem, iron golem, and fire golem you get other pets. This is all stuff that I had forgotten since it's been about 4 years since I played the game. The only real difference is that warlocks can't do anything with corpses i.e. make them explode or create minions. I had done absolutely no research about character classes before creating my character, just watching the intro movie was enough to make up my mind. I knew this class was me and I haven't been let down since.

Sorry for the no notice goodbye ingame... Chances are you will see the items in your MH before you read this. >> This is mainly for Pax. Kline, I don't much see you in game anymore and I don't know what you need or if you are playing much longer. If I have enough gil from my crazy QUITTINGSPECIALBAZAARBUYNOW!!!!! I'll send some your way. I'm limited on the amount of items I can send due to delivery box space and unfortunately I haven't done anything with you for months so other people take priority. I think I know you well enough to say that you would understand that if I don't send something your way it isn't because I don't like you. I'm just trying to make it as quick as possible so I don't try to change my mind and try to juggle two games at once. In this case, WoW wins. No treadmill for me, none of the same old same old, way more zones with mobs at exp range... and one of the best parts, there are zones that are actually very creepy! Then there are places like I ventured into last night... a seemingly empty farmyard. I walked in a little ways and was attacked by mob rogues that used their invis ability to backstab me. Yeah, I died.. but these mobs have the same abilities as the people playing the same class! Isn't that exciting? I've killed mob warlocks too... Plus you can duel anyone you want to. You ask them to duel and they accept or decline.

FFXI - thank you for your fun times and adventures....
WoW for teh win.

ONE OF US....ONE OF US.....ONE OF US!!!!!!!!
Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen it's true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"...

...and I'll look down, and whisper "no."
