You guys are sick... oh my.

Ignore me, it is simply my jealousy as I struggle to create gloves, capes, doublets, and headgear out of yagudo necklaces and wind/earth crystals. Oh well, maybe someday it'll get easier... nah. ^^

Yes. Making headgear sucks. Join the darkside where you stand and fish for hours. Then when you're done with that, you fish some more and pray for the lucrative catches.

I need to get out more. ^^;

Well Pax, this coming from a fellow crafter (and trust me Goldsmithing is so expensive ><), take up fishing too.

It will help get money to spend on crafting. That is what I am doing. I fish and then use the money from fishing on more materials for goldsmithing.

Although once I get goldsmithing 11, it's all over, silver Ingots will own me... 22-24k a stack baby. And I can easily farm Silver Beastcoins from the beastmen :)

I will not lie and say that if not done correctly, you'll lose money fast on fishing. Not to mention that your very first REAL source of fishing income will come from Moat Carp... which you cannot reliably fish for until Fishing Skill 8 or 9. And when I say "reliable" you'll still miss a lot of catches if you don't have an 11k Composite Rod. ><

You'll catch some Moat Carp here and there while leveling your skill though. I think Munki already has half a stack of Moat Carp at Fishing Skill 2.

It makes me sick, it really does. Last night after Jae Logged... I decide to break my enduring struggle for the composite rod of my dreams to purchase a carbon rod. "No big deal," I say to myself. "I can always just catch a few stacks of carpy warpy and make my money back quicker than quick..."

So as I sit with a smile upon my face, I cast out into the waters of Windurst Walls to catch my fortune. Ahh, my first bite. Of course I've caught a moat carp - there's no doubting that, right?

But no, the story does not lead down that path....

My F*ing rod BROKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bump because I just used this to verify that my catastrophic combo of Composite Rod + Minnow + Boat = Broken Composite Rod.

*cough*

http://www.clanwind.com/ffxi/fishing/

This site is awesome for anyone even remotely interested in fishing! Not only does it tell you if your rod will break, but it also lets you search for fish and where to catch them, or target what fish you should catch for skill. Hope someone finds it useful.

Did you ever figure out why I couldn't catch ANYTHING other than inanimate junk with the Rogue Rig? Or is that just how it works? High chance of objects with a very low chance of actual fish?

You totally missed it! The Rogue Rig is perfect for catching rusty items! They just nerfed it but there was a way to make uber loot off catching rusty caps (most people used rogue rig) and synthing them into padded caps with a light crystal and blacksmithing skill of 27 and above, then selling for 2600 gil to an NPC.

Of course I caught onto this and dumped 70k into leveling smithing to 14 and then the nerf hit. Light crystal prices went from around 4k to 15k per stack. So I can understand why S-E put the Kaibosh down on that lil practice.

Rogue rig is good for catching Shall Shells in Bubu, I hear. But you can now get a Robber Rig from the guild via the new guild quests. This can also be used to catch Shall Shells at a pretty good rate. The idea that they could catch multiples of Moat Carp has been totally thrown out since it's rare to even catch one moat even with higher fishing skill.
(No one has ever caught more than one fish at a time with this rig - which is funny since it's the HQ synth of the Sabiki.)

Oh, btw, I also caught a Red Terrapin last week. It isn't a fish, it's a fiesty red turtle! Sells for pretty good money to NPC too.
