Plus all that customization = mucho profits for stores and providers. You'll spend a lot of money on building a deck around a tauren warrior, then realize that dwarf priest is the way to go. So, you scrap your horde deck, go out and buy boosters until you get enough for a priest. But, in those boosters for alliance (Im assuming that alliance and horde have different booster packs), You find awesome gear to fit out a Night Elf rogue.

Before you know it, you'll have a collection the likes you havent seen since Ice Age came out for Magic the Gathering.

Eh, welcome to TCGs.

Instead of people having huge collections (although Im sure many will), the secondary market for cards could be VERY strong for this game for that exact reason Dalt. Once the card list is published (and people learn the mechanics of the game), it might be better to buy individual cards to "gear up a deck".

Personally, I find the concept of "gearing up" a WoW deck to be an entertaining pursuit. Its a great job of getting the feel of the MMO into a TCG. People spend a lot of time gearing their characters up (and then making alts to gear up), and this looks like it will have the same feel.

Yeah iI've been collecting all types of cards since I was born. My birthday shower had baseball cards as the main gift. So, im used to all this TCG cash incentives.

Im just saying it was really ingenius to make all those exclusive cards in order to optimize primary business, IE buying booster cards, standard decks, and expansion packs. Then, you can just get the secondary business of trading cards, ebaying cards, and playing three card monty in order to scam people out of cards (what I used to do back in 5th grade when pokemon was popular.)

The next card preview is up. Its the "ability" card Gouge.

Ill be very interested to hear about the resource system this game has. Resource systems (and how you go about bringing cards out/paying for them) make or break a game IMO. If the resource system is cumbersome or restricts deck building too much (or leads to lots of mulligans or drawing a full hands worth of resources) then the game just plain isnt fun.

Ill keep headin back to the WoW TCG site to look at the card previews as they came out.

I'm going to be curious to see how crafting stuff works. Maybe something was posted and I just didn't notice, I've only really read the two card previews. But seeing "Enchanting/Tailoring" on the hero card made my face explode with further customization possibilities.

Both gouge and charge show horde players attacking the alliance. Clearly biased.

Armor card preview is up.

They say tomorrow is a weapon preview.

Im patiently waiting for the resource explanation... but that might not come until after Gencon Indy (as it would probably require more of a discussion of the game mechanics... and they might want to save that).

I just noticed that the Azeroth set has 361 cards in it, pretty close to the MTG 350 set rule. Will the expansions have around 140 to 160 cards in it?

if only, if only

Ive resigned myself to jumping on the internet immediately after (or during) GenCon to try to get as many first hand accounts of the system as I can.

Until then Ill just keep the UDE site refreshed constantly :)

Awwwwwww... chromie is so cute!

Oh snap!

Just realized the "Quest" type card was previewed... readin up on that now.

...

OH SNAP! RESOURCE SYSTEM EXPLAINED!

Honestly, I love this type of resource system. I was going to make a post a bit back about how I loved the Duel Masters resource system... where any card in your hand could become a resource.

This way, there are no mulligans, there are no hands full of only resources with no other cards to use.

I ended up deleting the thread as I didnt want to admit that I played Duel Masters.

...

Wow... the resource system sounds GREAT... especially in light of the Quest cards.

This definitely ramped up my interest in the WoW TCG. It sounds like you guys are making all the right moves with this one.

Great job on the development process!

Ill be getting all my friends into this one.

glad you like the resource system. :) it's probably the part of the game i'm most proud of, even if it isn't hugely innovative. we looked at what we felt were the best elements of resource systems in different games and more or less combined them into what i think is my favorite in any TCG iI've played.

of course, i'm kind of biased :)

Well, the best part about a resource system like this (not that you havent had this conversation a million times... and will likely have it a million more during the conventions) is that, like Duel Masters, you get to see what a deck can do each and every time.

I hate not being able to play out a full match with a deck because of a lack of resources drawn in a hand (and sometimes, even with great deck building and a few mulligans, resources just refuse to show up). Improper cost scaling (i.e. putting in too many cards that have high resource costs) in a deck aside, when I sit down to play someone, I want to see everything their deck has to offer and to see if my deck can beat it.

The resource system that WoW has not only provides that, but also gives it a great little spin with the Quest cards.

All in all, just a wonderfully thought out concept. Taking a proven resource system(s) and improving on it with a new spin ensures that you have a very solid foundation for each WoW game.

Plus, it opens all kinds of customizability to decks above and beyond standard deck building for race/class combos.

Very exciting.
